Russell was appointed Head of Global Financial Services, Asia Pacific in November 2022. He has over twenty years of experience in Finance and brings with him a wealth of international experience, having worked in seven countries across four continents.


Russell joined AstraZeneca in 2014 and has since assumed various leadership roles with increasing responsibility. Russell started his career in the UK as Europe Commercial Supply Chain Market Lead. Following this, in 2017, Russell held the role of Strategic Finance Business Partner for the UK respiratory business. Then in 2018 Russell moved to Costa Rica to become the CFO of CAMCAR (Central America and Caribbean).


After a successful year of delivering significant financial control improvements and building a strong finance team in AstraZeneca, Russell moved to Mexico to take the CFO role in January 2020. Russell delivered historic growth throughout his tenure in Mexico helping double the size of the business in 3 years. He was responsible for leading the finance negotiations with the Mexico vaccine team, ensuring all financial commitments were met with the Mexican Government. Russell's efforts led to Mexico achieving the Finance Excellence Award in 2021.
