EMELLIA SHARIFF

CEO, MIDP and Managing Partner, Speak Up Malaysia

Emellia was a corporate advisory and litigation lawyer turned compliance executive for a multinational GLC in Malaysia. Throughout this time, she was entrusted with Corporate Governance matters, particularly to design, operationalise and culturalise policies, practices and values through training and employee engagement campaigns across Malaysia. Aside from that, Emellia’s expertise in people management and problem solving led to her being entrusted to manage the Whistleblowing channels and cases within the organisation. 


In 2019, she left her corporate job to serve as the CEO of MIDP. Under her leadership, MIDP cemented its role as a leading institute on soft skills education in Malaysia, both in the education and corporate sectors. 


To-date, Emellia has led training sessions for regulators, government agencies, MNCs, GLCs and SMEs alike. These include Petronas, AirAsia, Japan Tobacco International, Coca-Cola, Bank Negara Malaysia, Securities Commission Malaysia, Impact Integrated and many others. She has been invited to speak at multiple employment and gender related conferences and caucuses in Asia and the UK. Emellia is often invited to speak on various workplace issues in the media, including on Astro Awani, TV3, Bernama TV, BFM 89.9, The Star and others. Emellia is also the Managing Partner of Speak Up Malaysia. She is currently leading the project to draft the first ever Corporate Governance Guidelines on Diversity, Equality and Inclusion in the country. She was a part of the team to draft and successfully lobby for the passing of the Anti-Sexual Harassment Bill with the Ministry of Women, the Attorney General's Chambers and Parliament. Emellia is also a consultant for various other Ministries, working hand-in-hand with the Government to create policies, mechanisms and cultures that promote safe, productive spaces for Malaysian students and workforce.
